Managing AVONEX Side Effects
Managing AVONEX Side Effects
Know what you can do.
As you may know, AVONEX belongs to a class of drugs called interferons. Most
people who take one of the 3 interferons available tend to have flu-like
symptoms (fever, chills, sweating, muscle aches, and tiredness).
Flu-like symptoms are manageable. For many people, these symptoms will likely go away over time. So as you stay on AVONEX, these symptoms may lessen, leaving you feeling better.
See what works for you.
Some simple strategies may help you handle flu-like symptoms. Discuss the
following with your healthcare provider or nurse:
Take AVONEX at dinner or bedtime
- Try an over-the-counter pain and fever reducer before you take your dose of AVONEX
- Allow your dose of AVONEX to reach room temperature (up to 77ºF) for up to 30 minutes before you take it
- Therapy with the #1 MS treatment gives you access to a number of resources to help you manage flu-like symptoms. Call 1.800.456.2255 to find out about AVONEX Nurse Services.
Remember-talk to your healthcare provider or nurse, especially if the symptoms last longer than the first few months of therapy.
You do not have to be at the mercy of your flu-like symptoms. Thousands of people taking MS therapy have found ways to effectively manage them.
AVONEX is an effective treatment against MS, but like all MS treatments, there are side effects. Read the Important Safety Information about AVONEX to learn more.
