AVONEX Prefilled Syringe

Getting started: Proper training is essential

Before your first AVONEX injection, set up a training session with your healthcare provider. You can also get training from an AVONEX ActiveNurseTM to help you inject correctly each time. Because AVONEX is given into the muscle (intramuscularly), it uses a different injection technique than other injectable MS medications, which are given under the skin (subcutaneously). So proper training is essential, even if you’re already used to giving yourself injections.

Once-a-week dosing
AVONEX Prefilled Syringe is a manual intramuscular (into the muscle) injection for once-a-week AVONEX, as prescribed by your doctor. In addition to the standard intramuscular needle, there’s a smaller needle available for AVONEX Prefilled Syringe—giving your doctor the flexibility to prescribe the needle size that’s best for you.

Review the guide below before your training session with your healthcare provider or an AVONEX ActiveNurse. This guide will show you how to:

  • Store AVONEX and use it properly
  • Prepare your weekly injection
  • Take your injection
  • Dispose of used syringes and needles

In addition, you should review the Medication Guide in your AVONEX Prefilled Syringe package.

After your training, you can review the Injection Guide and the Medication Guide again during the injection process—whether you need to review the entire process or just want to refresh your memory about a few details.

If you have questions about injecting once-a-week AVONEX, contact your ActiveNurse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-456-2255.
